Curriculum
Curriculum Philosophy:
Preschool is an important time in a child’s life. Children develop the physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills that they will carry with them throughout their lives. Faith Presbyterian Child Development Center recognizes that each child is unique. Learning is achieved in an environment that encourages creativity, natural curiosity, and personal and cultural awareness.
Diversity plays a major role in the learning process and development at Faith Presbyterian CDC. Our curriculum is theme-based giving each child the opportunity to explore topics while learning new skills. We have designed activities based on creative expression, manipulation, and exploration to help your child to become self-actualizing and creative visual thinkers. Throughout our classrooms, there are learning centers, which focus on different developmental activities, including dramatic play, language, sensory, science, math, manipulative, motor, and art. Your child chooses activities in each learning center that are of interest and freely uses the materials in the center to become the architect of her/his own learning process. The centers are carefully planned with a wide range of skill ability levels to encourage children to expand on the knowledge they possess. Our staff actively observes and provides opportunities to elevate the learning process by introducing additional concepts when the time is right for your child.
As children become developmentally and emotionally ready, Faith Presbyterian CDC introduces literacy and language skills through story time, discussion, rhyming, artwork, storyboards, letter books and language charts. Children learn basic math and science concepts through naturalistic, informal, and structured experiences.
Our center has two playgrounds: a toddler playground and a pre-k playground to help children develop their large motor skills. Weather permitting, these playgrounds are used daily to allow the children to exercise and grow in imagination and social skills. The majority of our playgrounds are shaded by a variety of large trees.
The center supports the family structure by providing a warm, nurturing, family life atmosphere in a caring environment, which gives the children emotional security while encouraging independence, self-reliance, and self-direction. Throughout many interactions with other children and adults, each child becomes aware of the needs of others and develops healthy social skills.
We welcome the opportunity to work with you in your child’s development. Please contact us with any questions you might have about our program.
